I booked Skai for a proposal photography session, and was extremely pleased with photos taken on the day. Skai helped me choose the perfect location for a quiet and intimate proposal, and was very helpful with planning the whole proposal out. I don't have much experience posing for photos, but thankfully he is very patient, friendly and professional, helping guide us on the day. Very thankful for Skai for helping capture this special moment in my life, would highly recommend to anyone.- Keagan Foster

I had already twice the chance to get a photo shoot with Skai, first solo and second time together with my hubby. Both times I was from beginning on amazed by Skai's passion, patience and eye for detail during the shoot. Not only did he sacrifice hours of sleep to catch the perfect light, but also endured high energetic to-be professionals. Having a photo shooting with Skai you can just be yourself and natural.- Esther Pai

Skai the Couple Photographer
Hello! I'm Skai, a freelance photographer based in Singapore specialising in couple photography. I strongly believe in documenting all beautiful things to preserve good memories and share inspiring stories because happiness is contagious.
During my teenage years, I faced numerous rejections from crushes, and my love letters and poems were always met with disappointment. Being a naïve person, I channelled my agonies from my failures into a passion for helping others find companionship. Witnessing my friends' happiness in their relationships brought me immense joy.
Now, as a professional photographer, I utilise my skills and passion in doing couple photoshoots. Fun fact: I also specialise in dating profile photography, assisting singles in finding their perfect match, and I'm there to capture those unforgettable "yes" moments during surprise proposals.
My good karma has led me to find a loving life partner (my wife) who embraces all my flaws, including my passion for photography that's often undervalued by potential clients, presenting challenges in making ends meet.
If, like me, you believe in true love, let's celebrate it together by capturing your story through a couple shoot.
What Makes Skai's Approach Unique
Couple photography is about more than just pictures — it's about celebrating connection, intimacy, and the unique love story you share. As a professional couple photographer in Singapore, my portfolio showcases authentic, romantic portraits that blend flattering light, technical expertise, creativity, and a personalised approach. Here's what makes my couple photography stand out:
- Comfortable and Relaxed Experience:
Being in front of the camera can feel intimidating, which is why I prioritise creating a safe, friendly, and relaxed environment. I maintain a no‑touch posing approach, communicate clearly, and encourage laughter and playfulness to capture candid moments that feel natural and genuine.
- Flattering Light and High‑Quality Photographs:
Lighting is everything. I specialise in creating flattering light that enhances natural features and adds depth. With professional equipment and refined techniques, I craft three‑dimensional images that highlight your connection beautifully. From soft flash setups to advanced retouching, I ensure every photo is polished, dynamic, and ready for display — portraits that truly stand out from traditional natural‑light photography.
- Personalised Photoshoot:
Every couple has a unique story. Through bespoke photography sessions, I tailor each shoot to your personalities, preferences, and vision. Whether it's a theme, location, or style, I collaborate closely with you to create meaningful concepts that reflect your relationship authentically.
- Flexibility in Location:
I offer on‑location sessions for a natural and relaxed setting. Whether outdoors at a park or beach, or indoors at your home or office, even in dimly lit spaces or at night, I bring the equipment and expertise to capture stunning, memorable portraits anywhere.
- Professional Service and Value:
I believe in offering exceptional value. You'll receive professional, heartfelt photography that celebrates your bond and delivers timeless portraits worth treasuring.
By choosing my couple photography in Singapore, you're investing in portraits that combine flattering light, artistry, care, and professionalism. Together, we'll create timeless images that capture your bond and turn moments into memories.
Skai's Vision in Couple Photography
My vision in couple photography is to capture the unique love story of each pair through timeless, emotive portraits. Every session is a journey — fun, relaxed, and deeply personal — designed to celebrate connection, affection, and teamwork. I see couple photography not only as a way to create beautiful images but also as an opportunity for couples to strengthen their bond, express themselves creatively, and preserve memories that will be treasured for a lifetime.
My goal is to provide portraits that evoke emotion and authenticity, reflecting the essence of each relationship. By combining artistry with storytelling, I create photographs that serve as reminders of love, joy, and shared experiences, becoming cherished keepsakes for years to come.
Skai's Journey as a Couple Photographer
My journey into couple photography began alongside event and portrait shoots, where I sought opportunities to expand my creative repertoire. Starting with friends, I quickly realised the unique dynamics of photographing two people together — guiding their interactions to create natural, heartfelt images. As my portfolio grew, clients began approaching me for couple sessions, recognising the authenticity and emotion in my work.
Over time, couple photography became intertwined with other projects, from surprise proposals and ROM ceremonies to weddings and even interior shoots where couples wanted portraits together. This versatility enriched my experience and allowed me to explore love stories across diverse settings. Today, couple photography remains one of my most rewarding genres — a chance to celebrate intimacy, capture raw emotions, and tell visual stories of love that endure.
Tips & Tricks for Couple Photoshoots
Couple Photography Lighting: With & Without Flash

▲ (High-end) Outdoor couple photography using flash light
▲ (Casual) Outdoor couple photography using natural light
Both types of photoshoots have their pros and cons. It's up to individuals to decide which is most suitable and doable for the theme.
I've highlighted some of the major pros and cons of both of them below. For very detailed explanations, do view my article on flash VS natural light photography.
On a side note, during a high-end photoshoot, the photographer can switch to natural light whenever required (eg. lack of time, premises don't allow any set-up); a casual photoshoot cannot be switched to a high-end photoshoot (eg. during backlight situation, extremely harsh sunlight) since the photographer won't be bringing his lighting equipment along.
Couple Photography With Flash (High-End)
High-end photoshoot involves professional lighting. It's more complicated and difficult to do.
Advantages:
With the aid of professional lighting, the photographs will likely be more eye-catching. There's more flexibility in the angle of the shoot since backlighting problems are more likely to be overcome; beautiful sunset photographs can be captured. The photographs will eventually look more professional.
Disadvantages:
The greatest disadvantage of using professional lighting is its portability. It's extremely difficult to travel with big and bulky equipment. It also takes a much longer time to set up the lighting. Testing of light is needed whenever there's a change of angle or spot of the model; even a step forward or backward would affect the exposure. If travelling is required in between shooting locations, it will require extra time and effort to dismantle the equipment, and set it up again at the next location.
Couple Photography Without Flash (Natural Light)
Casual photoshoot depends on natural (sunlight) or ambient light (existing lamps with or without a mixture of sunlight).
Advantages:
The couple photoshoot can be done much quicker using natural than professional lighting; given the same amount of time, more photographs can be snapped. It's also easier for the photographer to focus on the expression during the couple photoshoot.
Disadvantages:
The quality of the photographs is very much affected by the weather (sun). There will be directions that the photoshoot can't be done, for example, during a backlighting situation (sunset). Since DSLR is easily available, it's more difficult for casual photographs to stand out from the crowd; unlike high-end photography which requires extra equipment and more skill to execute.

FAQ
- How do we prepare for our couple photoshoot?
- It's important to choose outfits that are comfortable and that you feel good in. Coordinating colours and styles can add visual interest to your photos. Avoid clothes with bold patterns or logos, as they can be distracting.
- Can we bring props to our photoshoot?
- Yes, you can bring props to your photoshoot, such as flowers, balloons or other items that are meaningful to you and your partner. Just keep in mind that the props should complement, not detract from, the overall look of the photos.
- How long does a couple photoshoot typically take?
- For a casual couple photoshoot session, the minimum amount of time, on average, is around 1.5 hours.
The actual duration of a couple photoshoot depends on various factors. The most important ones are the number of good photos that the couple expects, the number of outfits, the type of lighting used and the travelling time in between the photography spots.
Firstly, the longer time the couple photoshoot lasts, the more chances of good photos will be taken, including different varieties of them.
Secondly, if the couple has to get changed into different outfits, it takes time to find a place to get changed and the new styling will also incur more time.
Thirdly, since flash photography requires frequent testing of light, it will definitely require more time.
Lastly, if the couple wishes to take photos at different spots of the location or even at different locations, much of the booked time will be spent on travelling.
You shouldn't be rushing through a couple shoot if both you and your partner aren't professional models. It also takes quite a bit of time for everyone, including the photographer, to warm up to each other.
Eventually, you should hire a photographer for a longer duration if you truly want to get some well-taken photos with good lighting and expression. - Can we bring our pet to the photoshoot?
- Yes, you can bring your pet to the photoshoot if you would like them to be included in the photos. However, please keep in mind that it can be challenging to work with animals, and it's important to let me know in advance so that I can prepare accordingly.
- How will the photos be delivered to us?
- The photos will be delivered to you digitally, usually via a download link. You will be able to download the photos instantly once they are ready, and they can be downloaded anywhere with internet access.
- Will the photos be retouched?
- Yes, the photos will be professionally edited and retouched accordingly to the package you opt for. Basic editing will include colour correction, brightness and contrast adjustments, and advanced editing will include skin retouching.
- What should a couple wear for pictures?
- Coordinating colours and styles can add visual interest to your photos and create a cohesive look. When choosing colours, consider the location and season of the photoshoot. For example, if you're having a photoshoot in nature, earthy tones will complement the natural surroundings. Comfortable clothing is important so that you can move and express yourself freely in front of the camera. Avoid clothing with bold patterns or logos as they can be distracting in photos. Think about the final outcome and the overall feel and atmosphere of the photos you want to achieve and choose an outfit that reflects that.
- What couples should not wear for pictures?
- Bold patterns or logos can be distracting in photos and should be avoided. Clothing that is too tight or restrictive can make it difficult for you to move comfortably, which can make you look stiff in the photos. Avoid anything that you are not comfortable wearing, as it will show in the photos.
- Which outfit is best for photoshoot?
- The best outfit for a photoshoot is one that makes you feel comfortable and confident. Coordinating colours and styles can create a cohesive look. Dress for the location and season, for example, if you're having a photoshoot in a park, you may want to wear something casual and comfortable. If you're having a photoshoot in a more formal setting, you may want to dress up a bit more. Think about the final outcome and the overall feel and atmosphere of the photos you want to achieve and choose an outfit that reflects that.
- What is the best colour to wear on picture day?
- Neutral colours such as black, white, beige, navy blue and grey tend to photograph well and are versatile for different occasions. Avoid bright or neon colours as they can be distracting in photos and can clash with the background. Neutral colours also tend to be timeless, which means that your photos will look great for years to come. However, it's also important to consider the location and season of the photoshoot, as certain colours may complement the natural surroundings or the festive atmosphere better.
- How do couples pose?
- Couples can pose by standing or sitting close together, facing the camera or each other, and holding hands, or with arms around each other. A classic pose is to have one partner resting their head on the other's shoulder. You can also try different poses such as a romantic dip or a playful piggyback ride. Experiment with different angles and perspectives to get a variety of shots.
- How do I pose for pictures with my partner?
- The key to posing for pictures with your partner is to relax and be natural. Try to mirror each other's body language and movements, as this can create a sense of intimacy and connection in the photos. Use props or different locations to change up the poses, for example, sitting on a bench or standing in front of a unique background. It's important to communicate with your partner and the photographer to get the best results.
