Where We Can Shoot

You don't have to travel to a particular studio or location to create a strong portfolio. I can bring professional photography to wherever your concept works best, whether that's indoors, outdoors, at your workplace, or somewhere completely different. Portable professional lighting allows me to create polished photographs in a wide range of environments, including locations with limited or difficult lighting. Once your session is confirmed, I'll help you decide which locations best suit your style, comfort, and goals.

Lighting Options for Your Photoshoot

The lighting approach is determined by the package you choose. The more basic option uses natural or available light, while other packages may include off-camera flash.

• Natural or available light:

  Natural-light packages use suitable daylight or existing light at the location and usually allow us to move between positions with less setup time. If the conditions require additional support, I may use an on-camera speedlite, normally bounced from a suitable wall or ceiling.

• Off-camera flash:

  You can choose a package that includes off-camera flash or arrange it as a paid add-on where offered. The standard setup uses one light; additional lights cost extra.

• Advance arrangement:

  Off-camera flash must be arranged before the shoot so that I can plan the equipment, timing and location requirements. If conditions prevent the planned setup, I may use an on-camera speedlite instead, bouncing it from a suitable wall or ceiling where possible or using a larger flash modifier when there is no suitable surface.

When choosing a package for portfolio photography, the most suitable option depends on the session duration, number of people, number of final photographs, location, lighting requirements, level of editing and whether the photographs are for personal or commercial use.

Studio or venue hire, location permits, travel, special props or styling, additional lighting or manpower, advanced retouching, urgent delivery and other optional services may involve additional charges where relevant. What Is Portfolio Photography?

Portfolio photography is photography created specifically to build or update a collection of images that represents a person's appearance, abilities, range or professional presentation. The photographs may be used when approaching agencies, applying for opportunities, presenting previous experience or simply showing different aspects of the person through a carefully selected body of work.

Although portfolio photography is commonly associated with models, portfolios can also be useful for actors, performers, dancers, musicians, creatives and other people who need photographs to present themselves professionally. What belongs in the portfolio therefore depends heavily on who will be viewing it and what the person intends to use it for.

A portfolio photoshoot often benefits from variety rather than producing many photographs that look almost identical. Depending on the purpose, this can involve different outfits, expressions, poses, framing, backgrounds and photographic styles. For a model, for example, I may create a mixture of clean portraits, full-body photographs and more styled images to demonstrate different looks, while another profession may require a completely different collection.

Portfolio photography is therefore different from simply having a good profile photograph or headshot. A profile photograph may need only one strong image for a particular platform, while a portfolio usually needs several photographs that work together to demonstrate greater range. At the same time, variety should have a purpose; changing outfits or backgrounds repeatedly doesn't automatically make a portfolio stronger if all the photographs communicate essentially the same thing.

If the portfolio is being prepared for a particular agency, casting, employer or professional application, I recommend checking whether they have specific requirements before the photoshoot. Some may need straightforward photographs that clearly show the person's appearance, while others may value more polished or creative work. It is better to photograph according to the actual requirement than assume that every professional portfolio should follow the same formula.

For me, good portfolio photography starts with understanding what the portfolio needs to achieve. Once I know who will see the photographs and what the person needs to demonstrate, I can plan the amount of variety, styling, locations and photographic approaches accordingly instead of simply producing a large collection of unrelated portraits.
