You'll receive fun, natural portraits that preserve both your individual personalities and the friendship you share at this point in your lives.

Lighting Options for Your Photoshoot

The lighting approach is determined by the package you choose. The more basic option uses natural or available light, while other packages may include off-camera flash.

Skai Chan holding a camera for a lightweight photography setup
Natural or available lightA lighter camera setup that allows greater freedom to move around the location.
Skai Chan beside a softbox used for off-camera flash photography
Off-camera flashA planned lighting setup using a separate light and modifier.
  • Natural or available light:

Natural-light packages use suitable daylight or existing light at the location and usually allow us to move between positions with less setup time. If the conditions require additional support, I may use an on-camera speedlite, normally bounced from a suitable wall or ceiling.

  • Off-camera flash:

You can choose a package that includes off-camera flash or arrange it as a paid add-on where offered. The standard setup uses one light; additional lights cost extra.

  • Advance arrangement:

Off-camera flash must be arranged before the shoot so that I can plan the equipment, timing and location requirements. If conditions prevent the planned setup, I may use an on-camera speedlite instead, bouncing it from a suitable wall or ceiling where possible or using a larger flash modifier when there is no suitable surface.

For a practical comparison, read my guide to flash and natural-light photography.

The stunning images you see here feature everyday individuals, not professional models. If they can shine in front of the camera, so can you!

Skai's Vision & Goals in Friends' Photography

My vision and goals in friends' photography are deeply rooted in my belief that good friends are family. I consider it an honour and a privilege to document these friendships because they are well-deserving of being captured and celebrated. Friends who share laughter, support and adventures are, in essence, chosen family and their connections deserve to be preserved.

I firmly believe that friends' photoshoots are more than just capturing moments; they are opportunities to create something truly interesting and meaningful. I cherish each opportunity to do a friends' photoshoot because it allows me to explore the uniqueness of each group, their dynamics and the bonds that tie them together. Friends' photoshoots can be fascinating journeys of creativity, filled with spontaneity and I relish every chance to make them truly interesting.

In a nutshell, my vision is to celebrate the beautiful friendships that are often overlooked. My goal is to make each friends' photoshoot an unforgettable and engaging experience that results in images that cherish the remarkable connections that friends share.

How Skai Began Doing Friends' Photoshoots

My journey into friends' photography began with a passion for capturing individuals' portraits. I started by honing my skills through solo photoshoots, aiming to perfect the art of creating striking and meaningful portraits. However, as I delved deeper into photography, I realised the importance of having a diverse portfolio that could showcase the rich tapestry of relationships and connections.

During my early days in photography, when models approached me for solo shoots, I decided to take a different path. Instead of just focusing on solo portraits, I saw an opportunity to branch out and expand my portfolio in a more unique and meaningful way. This is where friends' photography came into the picture.

I began arranging friends' photoshoots when models expressed interest in bringing their friends along for the session. It was a creative and enjoyable way to diversify my portfolio while capturing the genuine dynamics between friends. Over time, I found that clients appreciated the added dimension of friends' photoshoots.

So, my journey into friends' photography was a natural progression that allowed me to explore the beauty of friendship and connections, and it's a path I continue to walk with passion and enthusiasm.

Why Skai Loves Doing Friends' Photoshoots

I absolutely love doing friends' photoshoots! For me, there's nothing quite like capturing the unique bond and connection between friends. Friends are the family we choose for ourselves, and it's an honour to be able to document and celebrate that special bond through my photography.

But honestly, it's not just the end result that I love, it's the whole process. From getting to know my clients and understanding their vision to the photoshoot itself - where I get to use a few cold jokes and silly antics to bring out the laughter and fun in my subjects. The entire experience is just so darn enjoyable.

Also, seeing my clients' reactions when they see the final photos are truly the cherry on top. The joy and excitement on their faces when they see the memories captured forever is truly priceless.

So if you're looking for a professional friends' photographer who will make your session a fun and memorable experience, and will love every moment of it, then look no further, because I'm your guy! Let's make some lasting memories together.

Wardrobe to Wear for Friends' Photoshoots

The type of clothing that people wear for a friends' photoshoot will depend on a number of factors, including the style and theme of the photoshoot, the location, and the personal preferences of the individuals involved.

It's important to consider the overall look and feel of the photoshoot when choosing the outfits. It might also be helpful to coordinate with the photographer and the other individuals involved in the photoshoot to ensure that everyone is on the same page.

Here are a few suggestions for clothing options that might be suitable for a friends' photoshoot:

  1. Coordination:

Encourage friends to coordinate their outfits but also to be comfortable, as it will show in the photos. 2. Seasonal Appropriate:

Keep in mind the season and the weather when choosing the wardrobe. In Singapore, it's hot and humid most of the year, so light and breathable clothing are recommended. Avoid heavy fabrics and dark colours that can make the friends feel uncomfortable. Opt for light cotton, linen or breathable fabrics that will keep them cool and comfortable during the photoshoot.

  3. Location-Specific:

Consider the location of the photoshoot and choose clothing that would complement the background. For example, if the photoshoot is planned at a beach, light and breezy clothing would be appropriate. If the photoshoot is planned for a cityscape, more formal attire might be appropriate.

  4. Reflect Personal Style:

Encourage friends to express their personal style and choose the outfits that they feel confident and comfortable in. This will help to capture their individuality and the true spirit of the friendship. It's important that the friends feel comfortable in their clothing and are able to express their personal style in the photos.

  5. Be Prepared:

Have a few extra clothing options on hand in case of any unexpected wardrobe malfunctions or if any friend changes her mind about what to wear. It's always good to have some backup clothing options, just in case something unexpected happens.

By following these tips, you and your friends will be well-prepared and dressed appropriately for the photoshoot, resulting in beautiful and memorable images that will be cherished for years to come.

FAQ

Can we bring props or costumes?
Absolutely! These will help to make the friends' photoshoot more interesting and enjoyable. It will also help everyone to get occupied so that they won't look awkward in front of the camera.
Can we include our pets in the photoshoot?
It's a great idea! I love working with pets. Do take note that it might require more time for the shoot with the involvement of your pets.
Can we do the photoshoot in multiple locations?
Yes, however, do take note that travelling takes up time, which will be counted into the booked duration. It also makes everyone tired.
Can we do the photoshoot at night or in low-light conditions?
Yes, do make sure you are going for the high-end (with flash) photography package. On the other hand, the pace of the shoot will be much slower as there will be more testing of light throughout the shoot. It's not advisable for a large group photoshoot though.
Can you add special effects or post-processing techniques to the photos?
Do let me know what you're looking at, so that I can see if I'm able to do it.
