Planning Your Solemnisation?
Your ROM ceremony may be brief, but the significance of the day isn't. Between the vows, the exchange of rings, the signatures, the congratulations, and the quiet moments shared with the people closest to you, there are many details that can pass in an instant. ROM photography in Singapore preserves those moments so you can remember not only what happened, but how the day felt.
As a ROM photographer in Singapore, I approach solemnisation photography with a balance of documentary coverage and carefully considered portraits. I pay attention to the ceremony as it unfolds while also looking for genuine expressions, interactions, and details that tell the wider story. For portraits, thoughtful composition, positioning, and natural direction help create polished images without making the occasion feel overly staged.
Whether you're having a simple solemnisation with a few loved ones or a larger ROM celebration, the photography can be tailored to your plans, venue, and priorities. I primarily work with the available light at the location, adapting to the conditions to keep the photographs natural and consistent while making the most of the environment around you.
The result is a collection of photographs that documents your solemnisation with care - from the important formalities to the spontaneous smiles, embraces, and moments shared afterwards. Years later, your ROM photographs can bring you back to the people, emotions, and promises that made the day yours.
Professional ROM ceremony photography covering the vows, exchange of rings, signatures, congratulations, and other important moments as they unfold.
Beautiful, relaxed photographs of you with family and friends, including the people who came to share this important milestone.
Light, easy-going couple portraits after the formalities are complete, giving you time to enjoy the occasion while creating photographs together.
Intimate photographs of getting ready, preparations, interactions, and the anticipation leading up to the solemnisation.
ROM photography is designed for:
Vows, tears, laughter, nervous smiles, and quiet glances documented naturally and sensitively as they happen.
Different ROM venues can have very different lighting conditions. I work with the existing environment and adapt my approach to create natural, flattering photographs.
From parents' reactions to group photographs and spontaneous interactions, the people around you are part of the story too.
Décor, surroundings, ceremony details, expressions, and small moments help tell the complete story of your solemnisation.
Thoughtful positioning and simple direction help create flattering photographs without making you or your guests feel like you're constantly posing for the camera.
I keep the experience relaxed and respectful, allowing you and your guests to enjoy the occasion rather than feeling like you're attending a photoshoot.
ROM ceremonies often involve tight schedules, changing plans, or unpredictable conditions. I adapt as the day unfolds so the photography remains smooth and unobtrusive.
ROM photography preserves the intimacy, emotion, and significance of your solemnisation - creating photographs that bring you back to the people, promises, and moments that made the day yours. To refine your ideas before we plan the details, read my guide to defining your photoshoot goals and consider which photographs, purpose, and experience matter most to you.
Your marriage solemnisation can take place almost anywhere, from an official ROM ceremony to a private celebration with family and friends. I provide ROM photography on-location throughout Singapore and adapt the photography to the character, lighting, layout, and atmosphere of your chosen venue. Whether your ceremony is indoors or outdoors, I'll work with the surroundings to create photographs that feel natural to the occasion.
Event coverage normally uses suitable natural or available light, with an on-camera speedlite when necessary. This keeps the coverage mobile and avoids interrupting important moments with a fixed lighting setup.
I use suitable daylight and the venue's existing light whenever it supports the atmosphere and allows clear photographs. When necessary, I may use an on-camera speedlite, normally bounced from a suitable wall or ceiling.
Off-camera lighting is not normally part of event coverage, but it may be arranged beforehand for portraits or a fixed activity area where practical. The standard setup uses one light; additional lights cost extra.
If the venue, crowd, timing or available space prevents an agreed off-camera setup, I may use an on-camera speedlite instead, bouncing it where practical or using a larger flash modifier when there is no suitable surface.
For a practical comparison, read my guide to flash and natural-light photography.
ROM photography is about more than documenting a ceremony - it's about capturing love, joy, and connection in its most authentic form. As a professional ROM photographer in Singapore, I combine candid artistry, storytelling, and client-focused care to deliver portraits that are natural, meaningful, and timeless. Here's what makes my ROM photography stand out:
My candid style captures genuine emotions and personalities without stiff poses or forced smiles. The result: portraits that feel authentic, heartfelt, and beautifully real.
Every ROM tells a story. I curate images that highlight not only the ceremony but also the subtle details - from attire and décor to laughter and tender moments - weaving them into a narrative that reflects your unique day.
I believe every couple deserves more than cookie-cutter photography. Through casual conversations and attentive listening, I understand your preferences and vision, ensuring your ROM photos feel personal and aligned with your story.
Singapore offers countless beautiful locations. Whether you prefer a scenic outdoor backdrop or an intimate indoor setting, I recommend venues that complement your style and enhance your portraits.
Every shoot is an opportunity to create art. I approach each session with enthusiasm and precision, ensuring lighting, composition, and expressions are captured perfectly. My passion drives me to deliver portraits that truly reflect your essence.

Clients' Testimonials
"Skai photography was the best decision I made for my solemnisation. From the first point of contact, to the final photos, things were seamless. When I visited his website, the way how he built up his website and those FAQs, can tell he is a detailed person. On our solemnisation day, he reached earlier than the time he was supposed to be there to get himself prepared.
We appreciated his knowledge of taking nice photos around Registry of Marriage, his friendliness and professionalism, and of course, his great eye in photography. Thanks Skai!"- Christine Teow

As a ROM/solemnisation photographer, my vision is to capture the essence of the couple's special day and create lasting memories they will treasure forever. It's a once-in-a-lifetime event that should be well-documented with beautiful pictures telling their love story.
My goal is to create images that evoke emotions and bring back the good memories of that day in the future. When couples look back at their photos, they should be able to relive the moments and remember their feelings on their wedding day. I want to capture the laughter, tears and joy of the occasion so that they can cherish these moments for years to come.
I believe that the photos should serve as a reminder of the promises made and why they chose to get married in the first place. When the couple looks back at the pictures, they should be reminded of their love for each other and why they chose to embark on this journey together.
In summary, my vision for ROM/solemnisation photography is to capture the love, joy and emotions of the couple's special day, so that they can cherish these memories for a lifetime.
Well, it all started when one of my close friends asked me to take some pictures at their ROM ceremony. They saw my portrait and event photo albums, knew I had a passion for photography and trusted me to capture their special day at a private venue. I was thrilled and honoured to be asked to do it, and I took the job very seriously.
When I finally delivered the photos to my friends, they were absolutely thrilled with the results. Their positive feedback gave me a huge sense of satisfaction and inspired me to start offering ROM photography as a service to others.
Since then, I've been lucky enough to capture the memories of many happy couples on their big day. Every ceremony is different and I love the challenge of capturing the unique spirit of each one. It's an honour to be a part of such a special moment in people's lives and I feel privileged to be able to create photographs that will help them relive those memories for years to come.
As a professional ROM photographer in Singapore, capturing natural, candid moments of love and happiness is what I truly adore about my work. It's always a pleasure to witness the pure joy that radiates from the newlyweds and their loved ones during such an important and intimate moment in their lives.
What I find especially gratifying is being able to freeze those special moments in time through my lens, creating beautiful portraits that will be cherished for a lifetime. I love the challenge of finding unique and creative ways to capture the beauty and emotion of each couple's love story.
But what really sets ROM photography apart for me is the ability to communicate with happy people. It is an uplifting experience to be surrounded by smiles and infectious laughter, which makes my work all the more enjoyable. Being able to connect with my clients and help them feel comfortable in front of the camera is a skill I take great pride in.
At the end of the day, there's no greater satisfaction than delivering images that my clients will love and treasure forever. Seeing the joy on their faces as they look through their photos is truly priceless and it's what makes my job so rewarding.
ROM photography has been a remarkable journey of growth for me, both as a photographer and as an individual. Let me share how it has shaped my professional and personal development:
Covering ROM events requires adaptability and versatility. I've honed my skills in different photography genres, from candid shots to capturing intimate moments, which has made me a more well-rounded photographer.
The fast-paced nature of ROM ceremonies often throws unexpected challenges my way, such as low-light conditions or tight spaces. Over time, I've become an expert at anticipating and resolving these issues before they impact the quality of my photos.
Every ROM event is unique and I've learned to think creatively to personalise and customise each shoot. This has deepened my creative instincts and allowed me to offer bespoke photography that truly stands out.
Building relationships with clients is crucial in ROM photography. My passion for meaningful work has helped me connect with couples and families on a personal level, ensuring that their photos reflect their emotions and personalities.
ROM photography demands a high level of professionalism. I've learned to manage the dynamics of these intimate events, ensuring that clients feel comfortable and safe while I capture their precious moments.
My passion and compassion have grown immensely. I've come to understand the profound significance of ROM events in people's lives and this has humbled me and made me more empathetic towards my clients' desires and needs.
ROM photography has taught me that there's always room for improvement. I constantly seek ways to enhance my skills, whether it's mastering new lighting techniques or staying updated with the latest trends in photography.
So, in essence, ROM photography has not only allowed me to grow as a professional photographer but has also enriched me as a person. It's a journey I'm grateful for, as it's brought me closer to my clients, enabled me to create memorable and meaningful work, and ignited my passion for photography even further.
ROM photography documents a couple's civil marriage and solemnisation, including the ceremony itself and the people and activities surrounding it. In Singapore, "ROM" commonly refers to the Registry of Marriages, although solemnisation ceremonies can take place at different approved venues rather than necessarily at the Registry itself.
Coverage can include the couple arriving and preparing, interactions with family and friends, the solemnisation ceremony, exchange of vows and rings, signing of documents, reactions from guests and group photographs afterwards. Depending on the schedule and photography duration, I can also create portraits of the newly married couple before or after the ceremony.
ROM photography overlaps with wedding photography, but the scale and schedule can be quite different from a full actual wedding day. A solemnisation may be relatively short and straightforward, or it may form part of a larger celebration involving a reception, meal or other activities. I therefore look at the actual programme rather than assuming that every ROM requires the same amount or type of coverage.
The ceremony itself requires particular attention because many important moments happen quickly and cannot be repeated naturally. I need to anticipate the exchange of rings, signing, reactions and other significant moments while being careful not to obstruct the solemniser, couple or guests. Knowing the sequence of events beforehand helps me position myself appropriately.
The photography conditions can also vary considerably. Solemnisations may take place indoors or outdoors, in homes, hotels, restaurants, event venues or other suitable locations. Available space, lighting, guest positions and venue restrictions can affect where I am able to stand and how I photograph the ceremony. When flash is appropriate, I also have to consider whether using it would be distracting during particular parts of the proceedings.
Group photographs are another practical consideration because couples often want photographs with parents, immediate family, relatives and friends after the ceremony. Preparing the important group combinations beforehand can make this process much more efficient, particularly when there are many guests or the venue is needed for another activity immediately afterwards.
For me, good ROM photography is about understanding which moments cannot be repeated and which photographs can be created with more control afterwards. During the solemnisation, I concentrate on anticipating and documenting what actually happens. Once the formal proceedings are over, I can provide more direction for group photographs and couple portraits where necessary.

Your ROM or solemnisation marks the official beginning of your marriage. While often smaller than a wedding celebration, the significance of the moment remains just as important.
Professional ROM photography can:
These photographs become a visual record of the day your marriage officially began.
The system of Registry of Marriages (ROM) is impressive. If you've registered properly with them, you simply need to turn up slightly earlier before the booked time. So far, the arranged time for the solemnisation that I've attended is almost on the dot.
What you need to do is to bring along both your IC to scan at the machine outside the solemnisation rooms and you will be registered to enter the solemnisation room.
There are LCD screens outside the rooms to display your name and your room number. Therefore, do keep a look out after you have scanned your IC.
After entering the solemnisation room, a friendly solemniser would be greeting you at a big table where he/she would sit at. You and your two witnesses will be joining the solemniser, with your back facing the rest of the guests. The solemniser will check the four ICs before beginning the solemnisation. The process involves vows, a kiss and the signing of signatures by you and your two witnesses. The solemniser would then open the doors on the opposite side where you've entered from.
From my past experiences, the entire solemnisation usually takes around 12 minutes. You can simply add an extra five minutes just in case there's any delay during the solemnisation, but I guess it doesn't matter much.
The ceiling lights inside the ROM, which act as the main ambient light, have a warm colour temperature. In other words, the light is both orangish and yellowish colour. Somehow, the colour doesn't flatter faces.
The ambient light doesn't only have problems with its colour, it's rather dim as well. Therefore, it would pose challenges for many cameras. The photographs may end up looking "noisy" (grainy).
There're a few "compulsory" iconic places to take photographs at the ROM. Unfortunately, most of the time, it would be a backlighting situation. That means the background (sky) would be bright, which would take away the attention of the viewers in the pictures. In the worst-case scenario, the backlight would reduce the sharpness of the pictures.
Other couples and families would like to take photographs at the iconic places to show "we were here". Therefore, it's polite and considerate of everyone to quickly snap their photographs and make way for the others.
