Men's Fitness Gym Photoshoot with Jeffrey Yeo
Working with Jeffrey Yeo was a truly rewarding experience. From the very beginning, his generosity and understanding stood out—he even invited me for a face‑to‑face meet‑up to discuss the shoot and kindly bought me a drink. Jeffrey was very honest with me during that discussion, which helped me feel relaxed and able to do my best for him during the actual shoot. During our chat, we exchanged stories, and I was genuinely impressed by his remarkable time management skills.
Jeffrey’s commitment to making the shoot a success amazed me again when he suggested hiring a makeup artist. His thoughtful approach showed how much he valued the outcome. Despite some changes along the way, I was glad he managed to secure permission from his gym’s management for us to use the space. Shooting in a gym added a unique dimension to the project—though it could distract from his physique, it made the session more dynamic and visually engaging.
Together with makeup artist Ivy Tan, Jeffrey and I had great discussions in our group chat leading up to the shoot. On the day itself, Ivy worked on Jeffrey’s makeup at the gym while I scouted the location for more inspiration. Having done my research beforehand, I already anticipated the equipment I would need to harness the gym’s neon lighting. I was delighted that Jeffrey was open to my ideas, including adding coloured gels to the flash to complement the ambient lights, creating a seamless and natural look.
Throughout the session, Jeffrey was cooperative and willing to experiment with different poses. His openness and energy made the creative process smooth and enjoyable. Unlike traditional physique shoots that can feel rigid or overly posed, this session carried a more lifestyle‑driven energy—lively, authentic, and full of character. Jeffrey’s humility also stood out; I believe his personality has probably earned him many good friends, or at the very least, made everyone around him feel comfortable.
Of course, the shoot came with its challenges. Bringing along bulky and heavy equipment was tiring, and at certain scenes I had to work with limited, tight angles—sometimes even shifting furniture around to make space. For other shots, we climbed to higher ground to achieve the right perspective. Balancing the ambient neon light with added flash colours was also demanding, but ultimately fun and rewarding. These challenges pushed me creatively and made the final results even more satisfying.
Within the timeframe, we captured a wide range of impactful shots. It was a tiring day, but the results were absolutely worth the effort—authentic, vibrant, and a true reflection of Jeffrey’s dedication.
