Couple Photographer in SG
Couple Photography Definition
Couple photography, also known as couple portraits, primarily revolves around capturing the intimate moments of real-life couples. It's about celebrating their love, whether during engagements, weddings or simply as a heartfelt keepsake. However, this artistry extends beyond personal relationships. In commercial scenarios, photographers skilfully create staged couple portraits for advertising, fashion or storytelling purposes. Whether genuine or artfully crafted, these images convey emotion, connection and the magic of togetherness.

You can choose between natural light or flash photography, depending on your preference. For night couple photoshoots and dim light conditions, I may require the use of flash to capture the best moments.
Contact me for my personalised advice to create beautiful, meaningful images that celebrate your love story.
Studio Couple Photoshoots
Celebrate your relationship in my portrait studio with intimate, romantic portraits. The studio setting gives us complete control over lighting, background and angles, ensuring every detail is perfect. The lighting will be soft and the love will be visible. We can use a variety of backdrops and props to create a setting that reflects your unique bond. Don't worry, I won't ask you to do anything too cheesy β unless you want that "hand heart" thing. The studio environment ensures privacy and comfort, allowing you to relax and be yourselves.
Home Couple Photoshoots
Step into the cosy comfort of your own home for an intimate couple photoshoot. Your love story unfolds against familiar surroundings, capturing the essence of your relationship in every frame. Whether it's your sunlit living room, the nook where you share morning coffee or the kitchen where laughter echoes, we'll find the perfect spots to celebrate your bond.
No need to tidy up excessively β I've become an expert at working around everyday life. If a stack of books or a playful pet photobombs your shot, consider it an endearing detail. Soft window light or carefully placed artificial lighting will enhance the warmth and authenticity of your images. Let's create memories that feel like home, where love resides in every corner. After all, home is where the heart (and the best photos) truly belong.
Indoor Couple Photoshoots
Cosy up in a beautifully curated indoor space for your couple photoshoot. Indoor settings provide a personal and intimate backdrop, whether it's a chic hotel suite, a charming cafΓ© or even a place with sentimental value like your office, school or museum. You don't need to worry about clutter β I've mastered the art of shooting around any unexpected distractions. It's your love that takes centre stage, but if a quirky dΓ©cor piece or a vintage chair sneaks into the frame, it just adds to the story! We'll use natural window light or professional lighting setups to create a warm and inviting atmosphere tailored to your unique location
Outdoor Couple Photoshoots
Outdoors, we'll capture your love in natural, candid moments. Think of it like a date but with a photographer casually following you around. Outdoor settings offer endless possibilities, from serene parks and vibrant gardens to bustling city streets and scenic beaches. The natural light and beautiful landscapes will add a dynamic and fresh feel to your photos. Don't worry, I'll only interrupt if you're walking into a tree. We'll make sure to capture the genuine connection and spontaneous moments that make your relationship special.
Night Couple Photoshoots
There's something magical about the night sky and the way it'll frame your love story. Nighttime settings offer unique lighting opportunities, such as ambient city lights, soft street lamps and the glow of the moon and stars. We'll create romantic portraits that make you feel like you're starring in your movie. Just try not to outshine the stars β they get a bit jealous sometimes. The contrast of light and shadow will add a dramatic and enchanting touch to your photos, making them truly unforgettable.

Reviews: Clients' Testimonials
I booked Skai for a proposal photography session, and was extremely pleased with photos taken on the day. Skai helped me choose the perfect location for a quiet and intimate proposal, and was very helpful with planning the whole proposal out. I don't have much experience posing for photos, but thankfully he is very patient, friendly and professional, helping guide us on the day. Very thankful for Skai for helping capture this special moment in my life, would highly recommend to anyone.- Keagan Foster
I had already twice the chance to get a photo shoot with Skai, first solo and second time together with my hubby. Both times I was from beginning on amazed by Skai's passion, patience and eye for detail during the shoot. Not only did he sacrifice hours of sleep to catch the perfect light, but also endured high energetic to-be professionals. Having a photo shooting with Skai you can just be yourself and natural.- Esther Pai
I would like to invite you to read through my testimonials from past clients. These testimonials will give you a deeper understanding of who I am as a photographer and my professional photography services.
My clients' experiences and feedback are of the utmost importance to me and I'm proud to showcase their kind words and beautiful images on my website. These testimonials will give you a glimpse into the level of commitment and passion I bring to every photoshoot.

About: Skai the Couple Photographer
Hello! I'm Skai, a freelance photographer based in Singapore specialising in couple photography. I strongly believe in documenting all beautiful things to preserve good memories and share inspiring stories because happiness is contagious.
During my teenage years, I faced numerous rejections from crushes, and my love letters and poems were always met with disappointment. Being a naΓ―ve person, I channelled my agonies from my failures into a passion for helping others find companionship. Witnessing my friends' happiness in their relationships brought me immense joy.
Now, as a professional photographer, I utilise my skills and passion in doing couple photoshoots. Fun fact: I also specialise in dating profile photography, assisting singles in finding their perfect match, and I'm there to capture those unforgettable "yes" moments during surprise proposals.
My good karma has led me to find a loving life partner (my wife) who embraces all my flaws, including my passion for photography that's often undervalued by potential clients, presenting challenges in making ends meet.
If, like me, you believe in true love, let's celebrate it together by capturing your story through a couple shoot.
Skai's Vision & Goals for Couple Photography
As a professional couple photographer, my main goal is to capture the unique love story of couples through my artistic and natural photographs. I'm a storyteller, taking couples on a fun and relaxed journey to explore their bond. My vision is to provide timeless and beautiful portraits that evoke emotions and capture the essence of their love. I am passionate, creative and dedicated to creating stunning imagery that will be treasured forever.
Part of my job is being a facilitator. I believe doing a couple photoshoot is an ideal way for couples to create lasting memories and achieve something together. By planning, preparing and posing for the shoot, couples can strengthen their bond through communication, collaboration and teamwork. It also provides an opportunity for them to express their love and affection for one another, and capture it in stunning photographs. Moreover, a couple photoshoot allows couples to express themselves creatively and produces something unique to their relationship that they can be proud of. In the future, looking back at the photos serves as a reminder of the love and happiness they share.
Skai's Approach to Couple Photography
As a professional couple photographer in Singapore, my approach to capturing the essence of a couple's love and connection is simple - I strive to create a unique and memorable experience that will leave them with stunning images to treasure forever.
To achieve this, I first take the time to get to know the couple, their personalities and their love story. I believe that this is crucial to understanding how to showcase their relationship in a way that is both authentic and beautiful.
During the shoot, I create a relaxed and comfortable environment, encouraging the couple to be themselves and express their love freely. I use a variety of creative techniques to capture spontaneous moments that showcase their personalities and emotions. From dramatic lighting to creative compositions, my goal is to create images that are both stunning and authentic.
Throughout the shoot, I provide guidance and direction to help the couple feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera. I believe that this is essential in bringing out the best in them and capturing their unique bond.
After the shoot, I carefully select and edit the best images, creating a collection that tells their unique love story. I strive to provide a seamless and enjoyable experience, from the initial consultation to the final product.
Overall, my approach to couple photography is all about creating an experience that is fun, relaxed and memorable. By combining creativity, technique and a deep understanding of the couple's love story, I aim to provide them with stunning images that evoke emotions, bring joy and laughter, and capture the essence of their love.
How Skai Began Doing Couple Photoshoots
I began my photography journey doing events and personal portrait photoshoots. My passion for photography drove my greed to create a wider variety of photos. I believe in exposing myself to different experiences to gain skill, knowledge and creativity to perfect my photography.
Therefore, when I was an amateur photographer, I was already actively looking out for opportunities to do couple photoshoots to showcase my photography. I began with friends and eventually, clients started approaching me after seeing my portfolio.
Having two models in a photography session is a different experience from my initial solo model shoots. There are pros and cons, but I enjoy how I can guide the couples to interact with each other to create more natural photos easier.
As I work on more types of photography projects, I'm glad that they are kind of linked. For example, I would get to do couple photoshoots for many opportunities, such as during or after a marriage proposal, ROM, actual day wedding or even at the end of interior photoshoots.
I'm glad that I have chosen to be versatile and open-minded at the start to work on couple photoshoots so that I'm able to get so many opportunities for different kinds of interesting projects.

How Doing Couple Photography has Helped Skai Grow
Engaging in couple photography has been a transformative journey, one that has expanded my horizons both professionally and personally. Here's how this experience has contributed to my growth:
- Diversified Experience: Transitioning from solo shoots to capturing couples has broadened my photography repertoire significantly. It's an entirely different ballgame, where the dynamics of composition and interaction play out uniquely. This shift has allowed me to refine my skills in framing, positioning and capturing genuine moments of connection between two people.
- Mastery of Lighting: Lighting is a critical element in photography and couple photography presents distinct lighting challenges compared to solo shoots. Learning to work with the interplay of light and shadows when photographing couples has deepened my understanding of how to use light to enhance the mood and atmosphere in photos.
- Immersed in Love Stories: Every couple has a unique love story to tell and as a couple photographer, I've had the privilege of not just witnessing but also understanding and conveying these narratives through my lens. This immersion in love stories, including those of couples from different backgrounds and cultures, has enriched my appreciation for the myriad ways people experience and express love.
- Managing Multiple Perspectives: Couple photography often involves dealing with two clients simultaneously. As more stakeholders are added to a project, the complexity increases. I've learned how to navigate and harmonise differing views and expectations, ensuring that both individuals feel heard and valued. This skill extends beyond photography and has practical applications in various aspects of life.
Overall, couple photography has been a profound catalyst for growth, pushing me to adapt to new challenges, refine my technical skills, deepen my empathy and enhance my ability to manage diverse perspectives. It's a continuous journey of learning and connecting, and I'm grateful for the opportunities it has provided to expand my horizons and capture the beautiful tapestry of love shared by couples.
Tips & Tricks for Couple Photoshoots
Couple Photography Lighting: With & Without Flash
▲ (High-end) Outdoor couple photography using flash light
▲ (Casual) Outdoor couple photography using natural light
Both types of photoshoots have their pros and cons. It's up to individuals to decide which is most suitable and doable for the theme.
I've highlighted some of the major pros and cons of both of them below. For very detailed explanations, do view my article on flash VS natural light photography.
On a side note, during a high-end photoshoot, the photographer can switch to natural light whenever required (eg. lack of time, premises don't allow any set-up); a casual photoshoot cannot be switched to a high-end photoshoot (eg. during backlight situation, extremely harsh sunlight) since the photographer won't be bringing his lighting equipment along.
Couple Photography With Flash (High-End)
High-end photoshoot involves professional lighting. It's more complicated and difficult to do.
Advantages:
With the aid of professional lighting, the photographs will likely be more eye-catching. There's more flexibility in the angle of the shoot since backlighting problems are more likely to be overcome; beautiful sunset photographs can be captured. The photographs will eventually look more professional.
Disadvantages:
The greatest disadvantage of using professional lighting is its portability. It's extremely difficult to travel with big and bulky equipment. It also takes a much longer time to set up the lighting. Testing of light is needed whenever there's a change of angle or spot of the model; even a step forward or backward would affect the exposure. If travelling is required in between shooting locations, it will require extra time and effort to dismantle the equipment, and set it up again at the next location.
Couple Photography Without Flash (Natural Light)
Casual photoshoot depends on natural (sunlight) or ambient light (existing lamps with or without a mixture of sunlight).
Advantages:
The couple photoshoot can be done much quicker using natural than professional lighting; given the same amount of time, more photographs can be snapped. It's also easier for the photographer to focus on the expression during the couple photoshoot.
Disadvantages:
The quality of the photographs is very much affected by the weather (sun). There will be directions that the photoshoot can't be done, for example, during a backlighting situation (sunset). Since DSLR is easily available, it's more difficult for casual photographs to stand out from the crowd; unlike high-end photography which requires extra equipment and more skill to execute.
How to Plan for a Successful Couple Photoshoot
- Choose a location: Choose a location that is meaningful to you and your partner, it can be a place where you had your first date or a place that holds special memories. This will help you feel comfortable and relaxed during the photoshoot.
- Plan your outfits: Choose outfits that are comfortable and that you feel good in. Coordinating colours and styles can add visual interest to your photos. Avoid clothes with bold patterns or logos, as they can be distracting.
- Decide on the style of photography: Decide on the style of photography that you prefer, whether it be more traditional or candid, posed or natural. This will help me understand your vision and tailor the photoshoot to your preferences.
- Schedule the photoshoot: Schedule the photoshoot for a time when the lighting is best, whether it be early morning or late afternoon. This will ensure that the photos are well-lit and have a natural, warm tone.
- Communicate with your photographer: Communicate with me prior to the photoshoot to discuss any specific shots or poses you would like, and to share any ideas you have. This will help me understand your vision and create the best possible photos for you.
- Be relaxed: Remember to have fun and be relaxed during the photoshoot. The more comfortable you are, the better
Locations for Couple Photoshoots
- Outdoor locations: Nature provides a beautiful and natural background for couple photoshoots. Consider having your photoshoot at a local park, beach or garden. These locations offer a variety of backgrounds such as lush greenery, water, and natural light, which can add depth and interest to your photos.

Challenges of Doing Couple Photoshoots
- Weather conditions: In Singapore, the heat and humidity can be intense, especially during the day. This can make it difficult for the couple to be comfortable during an outdoor photoshoot, as they may sweat and feel uncomfortable. This can impact the quality of the pictures, as it can be challenging to get natural and relaxed expressions. To overcome the challenge of Singapore's humid and hot weather, couples should consider scheduling their photoshoot during cooler times of the day, such as the early morning or late afternoon. They can also bring props, such as umbrellas or fans, to help keep themselves cool during the shoot.
- Crowds and the urban environment: With a high population density, it can be difficult to find quiet and secluded spots in Singapore for photoshoots. The busy cityscape can also create distractions and make it difficult to get the desired shots. To overcome the challenge of finding quiet, secluded spots in a crowded urban environment, couples can consider scheduling their photoshoot during off-peak hours when there are fewer people around. They can also scout the locations ahead of time to find the best spots for their shoot.
- Permits and restrictions: Some locations in Singapore may require permits for photography or may have restrictions on the type of photography that is allowed. To overcome restrictions on photography in certain locations, couples can research the locations, and if necessary, either obtain the required permits or find alternative locations that allow photography.
- Language barriers: Singapore is a multicultural city and attracts tourists and residents from all over the world. Some couples may struggle to communicate with the photographer if they do not speak the same language fluently. This can result in miscommunication and make it difficult for the photographer to understand the couple's preferences and vision for the photoshoot. To overcome language barriers, couples can communicate with their photographer beforehand to ensure that they understand each other's expectations and needs. They can also consider bringing a translator or using an online translation tool to help facilitate communication during the shoot.
- Nervousness and anxiety: Some couples may feel self-conscious or uncomfortable in front of the camera, which can result in stiff poses and unnatural expressions. To overcome nervousness and anxiety, couples can work with their photographer to create a comfortable and relaxed environment for their shoot. They can also practice posing beforehand and bring props or activities that help them feel more at ease in front of the camera.
- Lack of communication between couples: Some couples may not communicate well with each other, which can make it difficult for the photographer to capture their connection and chemistry. To overcome a lack of communication between couples, they can discuss their expectations and preferences with each other ahead of time and agree on a shared vision for the photoshoot. They can also work with their photographer to ensure that they are both on the same page regarding the style and outcome of the shoot.
- Coordinating outfits: Picking outfits that complement each other and the location can be challenging for some couples. To overcome the challenge of coordinating outfits, couples can consult their photographer ahead of time and show him some pictures of the outfits.
- Scheduling conflicts: Finding a mutually convenient time for the photoshoot can be challenging, especially if both partners have busy schedules. To overcome scheduling conflicts, couples can be proactive and flexible in coordinating a mutually convenient time for the photoshoot. They must be willing to take leaves if necessary to accommodate the schedules.
- Budget constraints: Hiring a professional photographer can be expensive and some couples may have budget constraints that limit the quality of the photoshoot. To overcome budget constraints, couples can work with their photographer to prioritise the most crucial aspects of the photoshoot and find ways to cut costs where possible. They can also consider hiring a photographer who offers affordable packages and flexible payment options.

How long does a couple photoshoot typically take?
For a casual couple photoshoot session, the minimum amount of time, on average, is around 1.5 hours.
The actual duration of a couple photoshoot depends on various factors. The most important ones are the number of good photos that the couple expects, the number of outfits, the type of lighting used and the travelling time in between the photography spots.

Lastly, if the couple wishes to take photos at different spots of the location or even at different locations, much of the booked time will be spent on travelling.
You shouldn't be rushing through a couple shoot if both you and your partner aren't professional models. It also takes quite a bit of time for everyone, including the photographer, to warm up to each other.

Experiment with different angles and perspectives to get a variety of shots. -
