When Erica reached out to me online for her ROM, I was immediately struck by her straightforwardness and warm communication style. We embarked on an exciting journey to capture the essence of her love story with Mathusan through a casual outdoor pre-wedding photoshoot before their solemnisation.

I had a vision, a desire for soft, enchanting lighting that would complement the radiant love they shared. While we strived to schedule the shoot for the early morning's golden hour, nature had its plans and the optimal lighting remained elusive.

Undeterred, my vision for the shoot shifted towards harnessing the unique charm of Dempsey Hill. Its picturesque buildings held the promise of a memorable day, reflecting the love and joy Mathusan and Erica felt.

For this significant occasion, they also engaged a talented videographer to document their journey. The challenge was integrating the photography and videography seamlessly into a tight schedule.

On the wedding day itself, the videographer suggested an alternative location he deemed ideal. With trust in his expertise, we ventured into a vast field. However, the sun blazed overhead from the back, robbing the focus with its glory brightness and there were other visitors enjoying the field.

Erica and Mathusan's commitment to creating perfect memories outweighed any discomfort. They braved the heat and navigated the mud-strewn field, even as I sweated over how to conquer the challenging lighting and distracting backgrounds.

While the videographer choreographed the story of their love, I realised our distinct styles. He worked swiftly, directing a new story for the couple effortlessly. In contrast, my approach was more leisurely, focused on guiding the couple to evoke natural, heartfelt expressions and body language. Eventually, our collaboration ensured both aspects of their special day were expertly documented.

I had to battle the sun's harsh glare, avoid capturing unexpected visitors in the background and ensure the videographer didn't inadvertently appear in my shots.

As the shoot progressed, I found myself seated on the muddy ground to stabilise the camera for certain low-angle shots, forgetting that I would later need to sit in the videographer's car. Embarrassed by my muddy jeans, I was grateful for the videographer's understanding and resourcefulness.

In retrospect, I've learned invaluable lessons from this experience. If given the chance to turn back time, I would insist on an earlier start for better lighting conditions. Separating the portrait photography and videography sessions would also be advisable, allowing each professional to work in their preferred style.

Despite these challenges, the photographs turned out beautifully, a testament to Mathusan and Erica's love. Their kind words in a heartfelt Google review remind me why I do what I do—capturing love stories, one frame at a time.
