Night Glamour Photoshoot with Val G
The rain started splashing at our hope in the mid-afternoon. Fortunately, it didn't last the entire but unfortunately, the makeup and hairstyling were delayed.
The concept of the shoot was supposed to depend mostly on the daylight. As the clock continued to tick off, my heart started bouncing faster not just because Val was hot but because I could sense we were losing the race against the setting sun. The slipping of the premium tea Xinhao brewed could not help to reduce the tension in my heart.
By the time we reached the beach, the lifeguards were ready to sound the siren to announce that they were knocking off. We got into the water, only to be chased out ten minutes later at 7pm. The quantity of ambient light was sacred and my camera had a problem finding the focus.
My lighting equipment was able to light up anyone properly and softly, however, they weren't capable of lighting up the entire open space to act like sunlight. That was the limitation and also the reason why we had to drop the initial concept.
Since Nicole has already spent time and effort styling up Val and we were already there, we decided to proceed with the shoot, except that I would be improvising another concept instead. After the lifeguards left, we went back into the water.
It was the first time I got my pants entirely wet during a shoot as I submerged half of my body into the water. I was more worried about my camera and lens. Nicole helped to hold onto my lighting with a softbox attached and in return, it helped her to train her arm muscle.
We took a break during the shoot and went back to our belongings to touch up the makeup. I allowed my light stand to take over Nicole's secondary "job". I counted myself lucky since it wasn't windy, but eventually, I still had to clean up the sand on my equipment after the shoot.
I was extremely impressed by Val once again.
Firstly, she trusted me entirely, in both my character and ability to deliver the artwork. It was obvious that the styling was sexy and thus most of the girls who would approach me wouldn't be too comfortable with the idea. She was flexible for perhaps, she knew I could produce some work of a certain quality no matter what.
Secondly, she was actually quite afraid of dipping into the seawater at night. She was also worried about jellyfish. Perhaps, we could feel itches on the skin that got into contact with the sand inside the water. Eventually, she held back her fear.
Thirdly, the water was cold at night and thus she had to endure the low temperature. I knew the difficulty because I was inside the water as well.
Lastly, she performed extremely well. She cooperated fully and she displayed her creativity. Her expression was great. She made the photographs look artistic.
Given all the constraints, we spent over an hour inside the water. Her effort, perseverance and positive mind are gems. Her beauty and gorgeousness helped to give a powerful finishing touch to the artwork.
Although I was blessed with a team of artists, I did face challenges on my part. Perhaps, the most significant issue was the autofocusing of my camera in the darkness. Having one of the best low-light cameras was still insufficient and some of the photographs were out of focus. Nicole had to shine her torch on Val to help me in focusing. It was also a good chance to train my arms since I couldn't rest the camera during the shoot.
The photographs made our effort worthwhile.
