ROM Photography Services in Singapore

As a ROM photographer, I offer a range of services to help you capture the perfect moment. From photographing the solemnisation ceremony itself to taking group photos with your guests and casual portraits of you and your partner, I can help you create a beautiful and memorable album of your ROM.

Some couples may choose to do their ROM on the same day as their actual day wedding and ROM will be part of the entire event. Others may opt to do their ROM on a separate day or perhaps, not have any banquet.

I understand that every couple has their own vision for their ROM photography, and I am passionate about bringing that vision to life. Every shoot is part of my portfolio and I strive to create natural and expressive portraits that showcase your love and joy. So whether you choose the ROM centre at Fort Canning Park or a private venue, I am ready to capture the memories that will last a lifetime.

  1. Candid moments: One of the most magical things about a ROM ceremony is the candid moments that unfold. As a professional ROM photographer, I make it a priority to capture those unguarded and spontaneous moments, whether it's a tearful exchange of vows or a heartfelt kiss. These moments tell a story and capture the essence of the couple's love and commitment to each other.
  2. Group photoshoot: Aside from the candid moments, ROM photography also involves taking group photos before or after the ceremony with guests. This is a great way to immortalise the presence of family and friends on your special day. These group photos also serve as a beautiful memento that you can look back on and reminisce with your loved ones.
  3. Portrait photoshoot: In addition to the actual ceremony, I also offer a casual portrait photoshoot before or after the solemnisation. This gives couples the chance to take more relaxed and candid photos in a variety of locations around Singapore. Whether you want to take photos at your favourite café or in a beautiful park, I'm happy to help you create the perfect setting for your photos.

Apart from ROM/solemnisation, my wedding photography services ranges from marriage proposal photography, pre/post wedding photoshoot, wedding betrothal (guo da li) photography to actual day wedding photography. I'm also a highly-valued second shooter for any event because of my expertise in capturing natural-looking snapshots.

ROM Photography at ROM Centre

The ROM centre at Fort Canning Park is a popular choice for many couples due to its beautiful outdoor scenery and convenient location. It provides a serene and romantic atmosphere for your group and portrait photography session after the actual ROM ceremony. However, as it is a public location, there may be other couples or visitors in the area, which could affect your privacy.

Since it is the most common place for couples to register their marriage, I have many opportunities to provide my photography services over there. Thus, I hope my experience can help you to capture the best photos possible. I will also work to enhance the colour tone of the photos caused by the unflattering ceiling light in the centre.

ROM Photography at Private Venues

private venues offer more exclusivity and control over the setting for your ROM ceremony and photography. Whether it's a luxurious hotel, a charming restaurant or even your own home, a private venue can provide a personalised touch to your special day. However, it's important to ensure that the venue allows photography and has enough space and natural light for the best results.

As a photographer, I am flexible and can accommodate different locations and lighting conditions. Whether it's a bright and sunny day or a rainy one, I can adjust my settings to capture the best possible shots. I also bring my own lighting equipment to ensure that the portraits are well-lit and detailed, no matter the location.

Casual Portraits after ROM

Couple portrait after ROM

As a professional photographer, I highly recommend taking a few casual portraits after your ROM ceremony, especially if the bride has already put on good makeup and hairstyling. There are several reasons why this is a great idea:

  1. You'll look and feel your best: After the ceremony, the bride's makeup and hair will be perfectly done, and the groom will be looking sharp in his suit. Taking a few portraits at this moment ensures that you capture the newlyweds looking their best.
  2. A special moment for the couple: The casual portrait session after the ceremony is a special moment for the couple to take a breather from the hustle and bustle of the day and focus solely on each other.
  3. A chance to get creative: Since the ceremony is over, the pressure is off and you can relax and get creative with your poses and settings. You can choose to take portraits in a variety of locations, whether it's a beautiful garden, a cosy corner of the venue or even the city streets. You can also get your guests involved!
  4. Perfect for save-the-date cards: If you're planning on sending out save-the-date cards or announcements, taking portraits after the ceremony is the perfect opportunity to capture your love and excitement for the big day.

At the end of the day, taking casual portraits after your ROM ceremony is an excellent idea. Not only will you capture beautiful memories, but you'll also have the opportunity to relax and enjoy the moment with your spouse. As a professional photographer, I am always excited to capture these special moments for my clients, and I offer a range of ROM photography packages to suit your needs and budget. So why not take a few moments to capture your post-ceremony glow and celebrate your love with beautiful portraits?

Why Skai is the Premium Choice for ROM Photography

In the ROM photography industry, there are many talented photographers to choose from, each with their own unique style and approach. So, what sets me apart from the rest?

  1. Natural candid photos: First and foremost, I believe that my natural and candid style of photography truly captures the essence of the moment. I don't rely on stiff poses or forced smiles, but rather I capture the true emotions and personalities of my subjects. This approach creates images that are not only beautiful but also genuine and meaningful.
  2. Storytelling / photojournalistic: In addition, I have a keen eye for detail and a passion for storytelling. I strive to tell the story of your ROM through a series of carefully curated images that showcase the love, joy and connection between you and your partner. From the intricate details of your wedding dress to the laughter shared between you and your guests, I am always on the lookout for the little moments that make your day unique.
  3. Understanding of needs: Unlike other photographers who may simply go through the motions and deliver standard results, I approach every shoot as an opportunity to showcase my passion and creativity. I believe that my clients deserve more than just a cookie-cutter approach to photography, and that's why I take the time to understand their needs, preferences and vision for their ROM ceremony. This is why I may be having lots of casual chit-chatting with you.
  4. Knowledge of locations: I have a deep love and appreciation for Singapore and all of its beautiful locations. Whether you're looking for a stunning outdoor backdrop or an intimate indoor setting, I can recommend some of the suitable locations to complement your unique style and preferences.
  5. Our common goal: Finally, I believe that every shoot is an opportunity, in my limited time, to add to my portfolio and showcase my talents to potential clients. That's why I approach every session with the same level of passion and enthusiasm, regardless of whether the client is a first-timer or a repeat customer. Every portrait that I take is an opportunity to showcase my skills and abilities, and that's why I take great care to ensure that every detail is captured perfectly. From the lighting and composition to the expression and body language, I strive to create images that truly capture the essence of my subjects.

In summary, what sets me apart as a ROM photographer is my passion, skills, attention to detail and commitment to creating personalised and natural portraits that truly reflect the unique personalities of my clients.

"Skai photography was the best decision I made for my solemnisation. From the first point of contact, to the final photos, things were seamless. When I visited his website, the way how he built up his website and those FAQs, can tell he is a detailed person. On our solemnisation day, he reached earlier than the time he was supposed to be there to get himself prepared.

We appreciated his knowledge of taking nice photos around Registry of Marriage, his friendliness and professionalism, and of course, his great eye in photography. Thanks Skai!" - Christine Teow

As a ROM/solemnisation photographer, my vision is to capture the essence of the couple's special day and create lasting memories they will treasure forever. It's a once-in-a-lifetime event that should be well-documented with beautiful pictures telling their love story.

My goal is to create images that evoke emotions and bring back the good memories of that day in the future. When couples look back at their photos, they should be able to relive the moments and remember their feelings on their wedding day. I want to capture the laughter, tears and joy of the occasion so that they can cherish these moments for years to come.

I believe that the photos should serve as a reminder of the promises made and why they chose to get married in the first place. When the couple looks back at the pictures, they should be reminded of their love for each other and why they chose to embark on this journey together.

In summary, my vision for ROM/solemnisation photography is to capture the love, joy and emotions of the couple's special day, so that they can cherish these memories for a lifetime.

How Skai Began Doing ROM Photography

Well, it all started when one of my close friends asked me to take some pictures at their ROM ceremony. They saw my portrait and event photo albums, knew I had a passion for photography and trusted me to capture their special day at a private venue. I was thrilled and honoured to be asked to do it, and I took the job very seriously.

When I finally delivered the photos to my friends, they were absolutely thrilled with the results. Their positive feedback gave me a huge sense of satisfaction and inspired me to start offering ROM photography as a service to others.

Since then, I've been lucky enough to capture the memories of many happy couples on their big day. Every ceremony is different and I love the challenge of capturing the unique spirit of each one. It's an honour to be a part of such a special moment in people's lives and I feel privileged to be able to create photographs that will help them relive those memories for years to come.

Why Skai Loves Doing ROM Photoshoots

As a professional ROM photographer in Singapore, capturing natural, candid moments of love and happiness is what I truly adore about my work. It's always a pleasure to witness the pure joy that radiates from the newlyweds and their loved ones during such an important and intimate moment in their lives.

What I find especially gratifying is being able to freeze those special moments in time through my lens, creating beautiful portraits that will be cherished for a lifetime. I love the challenge of finding unique and creative ways to capture the beauty and emotion of each couple's love story.

But what really sets ROM photography apart for me is the ability to communicate with happy people. It is an uplifting experience to be surrounded by smiles and infectious laughter, which makes my work all the more enjoyable. Being able to connect with my clients and help them feel comfortable in front of the camera is a skill I take great pride in.

At the end of the day, there's no greater satisfaction than delivering images that my clients will love and treasure forever. Seeing the joy on their faces as they look through their photos is truly priceless and it's what makes my job so rewarding.

  1. Mastery of Diverse Skills: Covering ROM events requires adaptability and versatility. I've honed my skills in different photography genres, from candid shots to capturing intimate moments, which has made me a more well-rounded photographer.
  2. Problem-Solving Expertise: The fast-paced nature of ROM ceremonies often throws unexpected challenges my way, such as low-light conditions or tight spaces. Over time, I've become an expert at anticipating and resolving these issues before they impact the quality of my photos.
  3. Enhanced Creativity: Every ROM event is unique and I've learned to think creatively to personalise and customise each shoot. This has deepened my creative instincts and allowed me to offer bespoke photography that truly stands out.
  4. Client Connection: Building relationships with clients is crucial in ROM photography. My passion for meaningful work has helped me connect with couples and families on a personal level, ensuring that their photos reflect their emotions and personalities.
  5. Professionalism: ROM photography demands a high level of professionalism. I've learned to manage the dynamics of these intimate events, ensuring that clients feel comfortable and safe while I capture their precious moments.
  6. Humility and Empathy: My passion and compassion have grown immensely. I've come to understand the profound significance of ROM events in people's lives and this has humbled me and made me more empathetic towards my clients' desires and needs.
  7. Continuous Learning: ROM photography has taught me that there's always room for improvement. I constantly seek ways to enhance my skills, whether it's mastering new lighting techniques or staying updated with the latest trends in photography.

So, in essence, ROM photography has not only allowed me to grow as a professional photographer but has also enriched me as a person. It's a journey I'm grateful for, as it's brought me closer to my clients, enabled me to create memorable and meaningful work, and ignited my passion for photography even further.

Understanding ROM Photography

What is ROM Photography?

ROM photography, short for Registry of Marriage photography, is a specialised field capturing the pivotal moments during a couple's legal union. From photography, it entails the documentation of events surrounding the official registration of a marriage. The focus is on preserving the ceremony's emotional and significant facets through the lens, creating a visual narrative of the couple's commitment to each other.

This form of photography requires a skilled and discreet approach to encapsulate the essence of the union while respecting the intimacy of the occasion.

What is ROM Photography also Known as?

ROM photography is known by various synonymous terms within the realm of matrimonial documentation. Terms such as solemnisation photography and civil ceremony photography are often used interchangeably to describe the visual chronicle of legal marriage proceedings. Each term encapsulates the same core objective - capturing the essence of the union in a visual format.

The Uses of ROM Photography

The uses of ROM photography extend beyond mere documentation; it serves as a cherished visual record of the momentous occasion. Couples often utilise these photographs for creating bespoke wedding albums, sharing announcements with friends and family, or commemorating the event on social media platforms. ROM photography, in essence, becomes a timeless keepsake that encapsulates the beginning of a shared journey.

Goals of ROM Photography

The primary goals of ROM photography are rooted in encapsulating the emotional richness of the ceremony. The photographer aims to document not only the legal proceedings but also the subtle exchanges of emotion, the expressions of love and the unique moments that define the couple's commitment. The ultimate goal is to provide the couple with a visual narrative that transcends the legalities, offering a tangible reminder of the love and joy that marked the beginning of their shared journey.

By achieving these goals, ROM photography becomes a meaningful and enduring testament to the union of two individuals.

ROM Procedure on Solemnisation Day

The system of Registry of Marriages (ROM) is impressive. If you've registered properly with them, you simply need to turn up slightly earlier before the booked time. So far, the arranged time for the solemnisation that I've attended is almost on the dot.

What you need to do is to bring along both your IC to scan at the machine outside the solemnisation rooms and you will be registered to enter the solemnisation room.

There are LCD screens outside the rooms to display your name and your room number. Therefore, do keep a look out after you have scanned your IC.

After entering the solemnisation room, a friendly solemniser would be greeting you at a big table where he/she would sit at. You and your two witnesses will be joining the solemniser, with your back facing the rest of the guests. The solemniser will check the four ICs before beginning the solemnisation. The process involves vows, a kiss and the signing of signatures by you and your two witnesses. The solemniser would then open the doors on the opposite side where you've entered from.

From my past experiences, the entire solemnisation usually takes around 12 minutes. You can simply add an extra five minutes just in case there's any delay during the solemnisation, but I guess it doesn't matter much.

Important Things to Take Note on Solemnisation Day

  1. If you happen to scan your IC earlier than the stated time, you might be called to go into the room to do your solemnisation earlier. Therefore, make sure your important guests have already arrived before you register for your ROM.
  2. Remind your two witnesses to bring their IC or passport for verification!

Challenges in Photography at ROM

ROM photography by random photographer
Above: Photography by the model's friend

The ceiling lights inside the ROM, which act as the main ambient light, have a warm colour temperature. In other words, the light is both orangish and yellowish colour. Somehow, the colour doesn't flatter faces.

The ambient light doesn't only have problems with its colour, it's rather dim as well. Therefore, it would pose challenges for many cameras. The photographs may end up looking "noisy" (grainy).

There're a few "compulsory" iconic places to take photographs at the ROM. Unfortunately, most of the time, it would be a backlighting situation. That means the background (sky) would be bright, which would take away the attention of the viewers in the pictures. In the worst-case scenario, the backlight would reduce the sharpness of the pictures.

Other couples and families would like to take photographs at the iconic places to show "we were here". Therefore, it's polite and considerate of everyone to quickly snap their photographs and make way for the others.

FAQs

  1. What is a ROM Photographer?
A ROM photographer is a professional who specialises in capturing portraits and events, specifically those related to the registration of marriage (ROM) in Singapore. He uses his skills and expertise to capture the essence of the event, from the exchanging of vows to the signing of the marriage certificate.

When it comes to ROM photography, a professional photographer knows that lighting is everything. He uses his knowledge of flash photography and lighting techniques to create stunning images that capture the emotions and joy of the occasion. He knows how to position the subjects, adjust the camera settings and use the right equipment to produce pictures that you'll treasure forever.

But ROM photography is more than just capturing a few snaps. It's about telling a story and a professional photographer knows how to do just that. He uses his experience to anticipate the special moments and capture them in a way that evokes the joy and happiness of the event. From the smiles and laughter to the tears of joy, a professional ROM photographer will ensure that every moment is captured with precision and care.

When you hire a professional ROM photographer, you're not just hiring someone to take pictures. You're hiring someone who understands the significance of your special day and is committed to capturing it in a way that reflects your unique love story. He knows how to capture the small details that make your day special, from the exchanging of rings to the first kiss as a married couple.

If you're planning a ROM in Singapore, don't miss the chance to capture the joy and love of the occasion with a professional ROM photographer. He will work with you every step of the way to ensure that your special moment is captured in a way that you'll cherish for years to come.
  2. Should I hire a professional photographer for my ROM?
Your ROM (Registration of Marriage) is an important milestone in your life, and capturing the memories of that day is a must. But, the question arises, should you hire a professional ROM photographer or not? The answer is YES!

There are countless reasons why hiring a professional ROM photographer is the best decision you can make for your special day. While some might argue that it's possible to get by with a smartphone or a friend's camera, there are several compelling reasons to invest in a professional ROM photographer.

Firstly, a professional ROM photographer comes equipped with high-quality professional equipment. This means that he has access to top-of-the-line cameras, lenses, lighting and editing software to ensure that your portraits turn out crisp and clear, with vibrant colours and stunning detail.

Secondly, a professional ROM photographer is reliable. He will show up on time, prepared and ready to capture the most important moments of your special day. This means you won't have to worry about missing out on any key shots or having subpar photos due to amateur mistakes.

Thirdly, a professional ROM photographer has the creativity and expertise to capture your moments from the best angles and compositions. He knows how to frame shots, adjust lighting and work with backgrounds to create high-quality, professional-looking images that will stand the test of time.

Finally, a professional ROM photographer understands the entire procedure of ROM ceremonies and knows how to work around it. He understands the importance of capturing the right moments and he will be familiar with the flow of the event, ensuring that he doesn't miss anything important.

In summary, hiring a professional ROM photographer in Singapore is a wise investment for those who want high-quality, reliable and creative photos of their special day. With his professional equipment, expertise and understanding of the procedure, you can rest assured that your photos will be of the highest quality, capturing all the special moments of your ROM ceremony for years to come.
  3. Do you also do ROM photography at a private venue instead of the ROM centre?
Yes, some clients do host their ceremony at their houses, hotels, restaurants, parks... etc. I prefer doing ROM shoot at different at other venues that are likely to be more interesting. Having to do interesting more shoots helps to keep my passion going.
  4. I love your high-end portrait work. Can we do it instead of a casual portrait shoot?
Thank you! I will be happy to create more high-quality pictures together.

However, do note that for the high-end portrait, it requires more equipment and effort, and thus will require a higher photographer's fee. Extra time will be required for the set-up and a lot of testing of light. There may be restriction of movement. If you are fine with all these, we can proceed.

By the way, I love working with people who truly appreciate photography.
