This beach lifestyle fitness photoshoot with Daniel Stephen was an adventure that began at the crack of dawn. It was impressive to see Daniel's commitment and cooperation as he willingly embraced the challenge of a super early morning photoshoot. We met at around 7 a.m., intending to capture the best possible lighting conditions.

Early morning shoots can be a challenge for many, demanding determination and an early start. For me, the difficulty lay in falling asleep early at night, which often affected my sleep duration and overall health. The stress of the upcoming photoshoot often made it hard to rest properly, causing me to frequently wake up in the middle of the night.

This time, I woke up hours before my alarm clock sounded, and to add to the excitement, I managed to find a promo code for free access to Sentosa Island. After successfully registering a new account, I quickly shared it with Daniel and I was thrilled that it worked, granting us access to the Sentosa Express!

Daniel's easygoing nature was a breath of fresh air. We chose Siloso Beach, one of Sentosa's pristine shores, over other options. However, the initial excitement waned when we discovered the beach in a less-than-ideal state. Litter was scattered around, and a flock of crows added an eerie, horror-movie-like atmosphere to the scene.

Daniel's clear vision made planning the shoot on my part relatively straightforward, although the shoot came with its own set of challenges. I needed to understand his vision for each scene and strive to create the photos he had in mind. Thankfully, Daniel was incredibly understanding and accommodating, just like in our previous shoot. When I explained the challenges and limitations of the environment, he took it all in stride and agreed to explore other creative ideas.

One aspect that impressed me was that Daniel came prepared with pose ideas, some of which he had drawn from my existing portfolio. This demonstrated his genuine interest in my work and photography, bolstering his confidence in me as a photographer, and significantly contributing to the smooth workflow of the shoot.

The most daunting challenge emerged when we ventured into the water. The currents were powerful, and, engrossed in capturing Daniel's natural look, I gradually moved into deeper waters while he stayed closer to the shore. I found myself soaked up to my neck, realising that I didn't lift up my camera strap. The saltwater drenched the strap, making it necessary to embark on a more laborious cleaning process later.

The crashing waves created massive splashes, causing difficulties in keeping Daniel in frame, let alone keeping the images sharp. In the process, a drop of water could have found its way onto the camera sensor, unbeknownst to me due to the busy schedule of subsequent shoots. When I finally discovered the issue while working on the next few albums, it meant extra work to correct most images due to a tiny water smudge in the corner.

Aside from the financial cost, this unforeseen problem demanded a considerable amount of time and effort. I had to travel to the Canon Service Centre, leave my camera for over a week for servicing, and then return to collect it. Working at the beach, particularly near the water, was a considerable sacrifice. Apart from the inevitable fine sand particles that can infiltrate equipment, tiny water droplets and moisture can reduce equipment lifespan and even cause irreparable damage.
