Our furry friends are an important part of the family too! I offer pet portrait sessions that showcase the lovable quirks and boundless affection of your beloved pets. Whether they're dogs, cats or any other adorable animals, we'll make sure their charm shines through in the photographs. I do dogs with owners and cats with owners photoshoots!

Whether it's a casual outing or a special occasion, we'll create vibrant images that showcase your friendship and immortalise those unforgettable moments.

Studio Family Photoshoots

Welcome to my private portrait studio – a cosy, intimate space where we create beautiful family moments. Due to space restrictions (and my somewhat picky nature when it comes to perfect lighting), I keep studio sessions limited to smaller groups. For larger families, we may need to simplify the setup a bit to make sure everyone fits without including my lights as part of the backdrop! If you're looking for more creative or dynamic lighting, smaller groups give us the flexibility to explore a range of options without worrying about bumping into walls.

Home Family Photoshoots

Ah, home sweet home! There's no better place to capture genuine family moments than in the comfort of your own space – and no need to worry, I've become a pro at navigating awkwardly placed coffee tables and overly excited pets. With my experience in interior shoots, I can work with your home's layout and lighting to create a natural, relaxed feel. Plus, shooting at home means you can stay in your slippers and no one has to worry about forgetting that one kid's shoes! The best part? Your home adds a personal touch to your photos, making the memories even more special.

Indoor Family Photoshoots

When it comes to indoor sessions, whether at your home or another location, I'm all about working with the light—natural or artificial—to fit the mood you're going for. If you want something cosy and warm, natural window light works wonders (no promises on controlling the weather, though). If you're after a more polished, dramatic look, I'll bring in professional lighting and voilà, instant mood change! Whatever your style, we'll make sure your family's personality shines through—because, let's be honest, you're all already stars in your own right.

Outdoor Family Photoshoots

Outdoor family sessions are the best for capturing candid, spontaneous moments—because, really, what's more fun than watching your kids run wild at the park while we try to get that one perfect shot? Whether we're at the beach, a lush park or maybe even your favourite urban spot, the natural setting adds a beautiful backdrop to your family photos. I'll work with natural light, from the golden glow of sunset to the high noon vibrancy or bring in some extra lighting if necessary—because everyone deserves to look fabulous, even if it means I end up hauling equipment up a hill.

Night Family Photoshoots

If you're feeling adventurous and want something unique, night photography can be a cool way to capture your family in a different light—literally and figuratively. With professional lighting, we'll blend the ambient glow from streetlights or city skylines with your family's natural awesomeness to create striking, atmospheric portraits. Night shoots are a bit like magic—they require just the right mix of creativity and technical know-how but the results can be stunning. Plus, who doesn't want to feel like a movie star under the city lights?

Family Event Coverage

Whether it's a joyful birthday celebration, a heartwarming family reunion or that annual argument over who makes the best potato salad, I'm here to capture the highlights and essence of the event. From blowing out candles to heartfelt embraces (and maybe the occasional spilled drink), I'll document the precious moments that make these occasions memorable—and hopefully not too embarrassing.

About: Skai the Family Photographer

Professional family photographer in Singapore Hi, I'm Skai, a professional family photographer based in Singapore, and yes, I actually do smile behind the camera, even if you can't see me. I specialise in capturing the warmth, love and occasionally the chaos that makes every family unique. Whether it's a quiet family portrait or a lively event where people are running around like it's a scene from a movie, my goal is to document those beautiful moments that you'll cherish forever.

I lost my dad when I was 15, and back then, photography wasn't exactly affordable, especially for a family on a tight budget. The film was expensive, and let's just say we couldn't go snapping away like we do today. As a result, we don't have many photos together and that's something that stuck with me. It's part of why I became a photographer—because I know how important those captured moments are, even if I can't get them back myself. They say a picture's worth a thousand words, but for me, it's also worth some lost opportunities I can't help but regret.

These days, nearly everyone has a smartphone and digital photography is practically free compared to what it used to be. That's why I believe everyone should take more family photos, even if the picture quality is, well, smartphone-y. If you can afford it, hiring a professional like me will give you photos that don't just live on your phone until you upgrade to the next model. If not, snapping some shots with your phone is better than no photos at all. After all, it's about capturing the moment, not becoming the next Instagram influencer—unless that's your thing.

I get a huge kick out of indulging in other people's happiness. When I'm photographing families, whether it's a portrait session or a birthday party where the cake is demolished in minutes, I find joy in experiencing their joy. Honestly, I've captured so many cake-cutting moments that I sometimes wonder if I've become a professional "cake witness" rather than a photographer—but hey, as long as someone's smiling!

While I can still run around without pulling a muscle (too badly), I'm eager to help as many families as possible capture their happy moments. Before I turn into one of those "sit-behind-the-desk" photographers, I want to document the love, laughter and occasional tears (because hey, life isn't perfect) for families who truly appreciate the art of photography. I hope to work with more families who see the value in my work and admire my personality, and are excited to continue this photography journey with me—while I can still kneel for that perfect shot without needing a chiropractor.

Skai's Vision & Goals for Family Photography

My vision and goals for family photography are centred around capturing the authentic beauty, love and connections within families. I believe that every family has a unique story to tell and I aim to create photographs that encapsulate their essence and preserve their precious moments for generations to come.

My vision is to go beyond simply taking pictures and instead create compelling visual narratives that reflect the dynamics and emotions within each family. I strive to capture genuine expressions, spontaneous interactions and the little details that make each family special. By focusing on real moments and genuine emotions, I aim to create a collection of photographs that evoke nostalgia, joy and a deep sense of connection.

One of my primary goals is to provide a comfortable and enjoyable experience for families during the photography session. I understand that not everyone feels completely at ease in front of the camera, especially children. Therefore, I take the time to establish a rapport, create a relaxed atmosphere and encourage natural interactions. By doing so, I can capture the true essence of the family in their most authentic and candid moments.

Another goal is to deliver high-quality images that exceed the expectations of my clients. I continuously strive to enhance my technical skills, stay updated with the latest photography techniques and utilise professional lighting equipment to create visually stunning photographs. I pay attention to composition, lighting and storytelling elements to craft images that are visually striking and emotionally compelling.

Additionally, I aim to offer a personalised and tailored experience for each family. I understand that every family is unique, with their traditions, preferences and dynamics. Whether it's a casual outdoor shoot, a formal studio session or a lifestyle photoshoot at home, I work closely with my clients to understand their vision and bring it to life. I believe that personalisation is key to creating photographs that truly resonate with the family and hold deep meaning for them.

Ultimately, my vision and goals for family photography revolve around creating a collaborative and memorable experience that goes beyond capturing beautiful images. It is about fostering connections, preserving memories and telling the stories of families in a way that brings them joy and allows them to relive those cherished moments again and again.

How Skai Began Doing Family Photography

Ah, the journey of how I ventured into the captivating realm of family photography is a tale filled with unexpected twists and delightful surprises. Allow me to share the story with you.

It all began during my event photoshoots when something truly magical happened. Amidst capturing joyous celebrations and memorable gatherings, I would often be approached by clients who sought casual family portraits to commemorate these special occasions. Their requests were born out of a desire to preserve the precious moments shared with their loved ones in a more intimate and personal manner.

As I captured these impromptu family portraits, a spark ignited within me. I was captivated by the genuine connections and raw emotions that unfolded before my lens. Witnessing the tender embraces, infectious laughter and heartfelt interactions among family members filled me with a profound sense of fulfilment. Little did I know that these humble requests would be the catalyst for my journey into the enchanting world of family photography. It was a delightful turning point when I realised that my work resonated with others, evoking an emotional response and capturing the essence of what it means to be a family.

Empowered by this newfound recognition, I embraced the opportunity to expand my portfolio even further. I delved deeper into the art of family photography, seeking to encapsulate the unique beauty of familial connections in every frame. Through carefully curated photoshoot albums, I aimed to curate visual narratives that celebrated the bonds, laughter and love that define each family's story.

As my passion for family photography grew, so did my expertise. I invested countless hours honing my skills, studying lighting techniques and refining my ability to create captivating compositions. With each new photoshoot, I pushed the boundaries of my creativity, finding innovative ways to capture the essence of each family's unique dynamics.

The joy of witnessing families treasure these portraits, cherishing them as heirlooms passed down through generations, became the ultimate reward. It was an affirmation that my pursuit of capturing the true essence of family bonds was both valued and cherished.

Now, armed with experience, creativity and an unwavering commitment to telling your family's unique story, I am here to create timeless portraits that will become treasured keepsakes for generations to come. Let's embark on this extraordinary journey together and capture the love, joy and memories that make your family truly exceptional.

Why Skai Loves Doing Family Photography

Oh, family photography, it's an absolute delight and a true passion of mine! Allow me to share with you the reasons why I love capturing those precious moments shared among families:

Witnessing and immortalising these fleeting moments of pure emotion is a privilege that fills my heart with immense joy.
  2. Building connections: Family photography is more than just clicking a camera shutter; it's about forming meaningful connections. Through my work, I have the opportunity to connect with families on a personal level, creating a comfortable and relaxed environment where everyone can be themselves. As I capture those genuine moments, I often develop strong bonds, particularly with the little ones. Building these connections allows me to capture their true personalities and expressions, resulting in photographs that reflect their unique spirits.
  3. The opportunity to be creative: Family photography is a realm of boundless creativity! From composing beautiful and balanced shots to experimenting with poses and utilising light in creative ways, there are endless possibilities to capture a family's unique personalities and relationships. Each session becomes a delightful challenge to craft images that are not only visually stunning but also meaningful and evocative. It's a playground of creativity where I can bring forth my artistic vision and create images that tell captivating stories.
  4. The joy of giving families treasured memories: One of the most fulfilling aspects of family photography is the ability to give families something they'll treasure forever. These photographs become cherished heirlooms, encapsulating a family's journey and the love they share. Knowing that the images I capture will be displayed proudly in their homes, passed down through generations, and serve as a constant reminder of their special moments fills me with immense happiness and a sense of purpose.
  5. The satisfaction of a job well done: Family photography, with its unique challenges and dynamics, can be both demanding and fulfilling. However, when the final images beautifully capture a family's story, preserving their unique connections and dynamics, there's an incredible sense of satisfaction and accomplishment. Knowing that I have succeeded in encapsulating the essence of a family's love and joy in a set of photographs brings a deep sense of fulfilment that fuels my passion even further.

Tips & Tricks for Family Photography

Preparation for Family Photoshoot

When preparing for a family photoshoot, there are several things to keep in mind to ensure that the photoshoot runs smoothly and that you get the best possible results.

  1. Location: Consider the location of the photoshoot. Choose a location that is meaningful to your family and that provides a beautiful background for the photographs. If you are unsure, ask your family photographer for suggestions.
  2. Clothing: Think about what you and your family will wear for the photoshoot. Coordinating outfits can look great in photographs, but also try to choose clothes that are comfortable and that reflect your family's personalities. Avoid wearing clothes with bold patterns or logos, as they can be distracting in photographs.
  3. Hair and makeup: If desired, consider getting your hair and makeup done professionally before the photoshoot. This can help you feel more confident and look your best in the photographs.
  4. Timing: Plan the photoshoot at a time that works best for your family and try to schedule it when everyone is well-rested and in good spirits. If you have young children, consider scheduling the photoshoot for a time when they are usually well-behaved and in a good mood.
  5. Props: Consider bringing props to the photoshoot, such as a special blanket or toy. These can be used to add interest to the photographs and to reflect your family's personality.
  6. Communication: Communicate with your photographer about your vision for the photoshoot and what you hope to achieve with the photographs. Share any specific requests or concerns, so the photographer can be prepared.
  7. Plan for contingencies: You never know when things may go wrong on a photoshoot, but being prepared and planning for contingencies can save you a lot of stress and hassle.
  8. Enjoy the moment: Remember to relax and enjoy the experience! Family photoshoots are a great opportunity to spend quality time with your loved ones and create memories that will last a lifetime.

By keeping these tips in mind, you can help ensure that your family photoshoot is a success and that you get the beautiful, meaningful photographs that you desire.

Locations for Family Photoshoot

There are many different locations that can be used for a family photoshoot, and the best location will depend on the specific needs and preferences of the family. I would advise you to choose a location that is meaningful and reflects the personality and interests of your family.

Here are a few ideas for locations:

  1. Outdoor locations: Scenic outdoor locations, such as parks, beaches, gardens or forests, can provide a beautiful and natural backdrop for your photographs.
  2. Studios: A studio can provide a controlled environment with a range of backdrops and lighting options. This can be especially convenient if you're planning a photoshoot during inclement weather.
  3. Homes: A family's home can be a meaningful and personal location for a photoshoot. This can be especially suitable for candid, lifestyle-style photoshoots.
  4. Cultural or historical landmarks: Consider having your photoshoot at a cultural or historical landmark, such as a museum or a monument. This can add a unique and interesting backdrop to your photographs.
  5. Urban locations: Urban locations, such as city streets or rooftops, can provide a modern and edgy backdrop for your photographs.

What to Wear for Family Photoshoot?

When planning what to wear for a family photoshoot, it's important to choose outfits that are comfortable, coordinating and suitable for the occasion.

Here are a few guidelines to keep in mind:

  1. Coordinate, but don't match: Choose outfits that coordinate with each other, rather than matching exactly. For example, you might choose a colour palette and have each person wear an outfit in a different shade within that palette.
  2. Avoid clothing with busy patterns: Solid colours and simple patterns tend to photograph better than clothing with busy patterns or logos.
  3. Consider the location: Think about where the photoshoot will take place and choose outfits that will be appropriate for the setting. If the photoshoot is outdoors, for example, you might want to dress in comfortable, casual clothing that is suitable for the weather.
  4. Accessorise: Accessories can add interest and personality to your outfits. Consider adding scarves, hats or statement jewellery to your outfits.
  5. Dress for comfort: Choose outfits that are comfortable to wear, as you'll likely be standing and posing for extended periods of time.
  6. Choose clothes that fit well: Clothes that are too tight or too loose can be unflattering in photographs, so make sure to choose outfits that fit well.

Props can be a fun and easy way to add interest and personality to a family photoshoot. Remember to choose props that are meaningful and represent your family's interests and personality.

Here are a few ideas for props that you can use:

  1. Signs: Have each family member hold a sign with a word or phrase that represents their personality or interests.
  2. Balloons: Balloons can add a festive touch to your photographs and can be especially fun for children.
  3. Hats: Hats can be a fun and easy prop that adds character and interest to your photographs.
  4. Scarves: Scarves can be a stylish and versatile prop that can add colour and texture to your photographs.
  5. Musical instruments: If your family enjoys music, consider incorporating musical instruments into the photoshoot.

  7. Pets: If you have pets, consider including them in the photoshoot. This can be especially fun if your pets have unique personalities or characteristics.

How to Pose for Family Photoshoot?

Posing for a family photoshoot can be intimidating, especially if you're not used to being in front of the camera. Here are a few tips to help you pose confidently and naturally:

  1. Relax: Take a few deep breaths and try to relax your body and face. Tensing up can make you look stiff and uncomfortable in photographs.
  2. Find a comfortable position: Stand or sit in a position that feels natural and comfortable for you. You don't have to stand perfectly still, and in fact, small movements and expressions can add interest to your photographs.
  3. Use props: Props such as signs, balloons or hats can be a fun and easy way to add interest and personality to your photographs.
  4. Practice good posture: Stand up straight and keep your shoulders back. This will help you appear confident and composed.
  5. Experiment with different poses: Don't be afraid to try out different poses and see what works best for you. You can ask the photographer for suggestions or look for inspiration online.
  6. Be yourself: Above all, try to be yourself and have fun. The most important thing is to capture the unique character and personality of each family member, so don't be afraid to let your true self shine through in the photographs.

Challenges of Doing Family Photoshoots

When embarking on a family photoshoot, various challenges may arise along the way. Nevertheless, with patience, planning and a positive mindset, these challenges can be addressed. Working with a professional photographer who specialises in family photography can also provide invaluable guidance and support.

Here are some common challenges encountered in family photography:

  1. Restless or uncooperative children: Children, being naturally energetic and unpredictable, may find it challenging to stay still or follow instructions during a photoshoot. Capturing their genuine expressions and creating a relaxed atmosphere requires patience and a playful approach.
  2. Squabbling siblings: Sibling dynamics can sometimes lead to disagreements or tension, making it difficult to foster a cooperative atmosphere. Skilful intervention and engaging activities can help redirect their focus and capture genuine moments of connection.
  3. Difficult lighting conditions: The use of natural light in photography can pose challenges, especially when dealing with harsh or uneven lighting conditions. A skilled photographer knows how to navigate these situations, employing techniques to ensure optimal lighting and exposure for stunning results.
  4. Unpredictable weather: Outdoor photoshoots are subject to the whims of Mother Nature. Rain, wind or other adverse weather conditions can disrupt plans. Flexibility and contingency plans are key to adapting to unexpected weather changes or considering indoor alternatives.
  5. Posing naturally and comfortably: Posing can be challenging, as some family members may feel self-conscious or unsure about how to position themselves. A professional photographer will guide and direct poses, creating a relaxed environment that allows for genuine interactions and natural expressions.
  6. Shyness or self-consciousness: It's not uncommon for individuals to feel shy or self-conscious when in front of the camera. Skilled photographers understand how to create a safe and supportive atmosphere, helping subjects feel at ease and capturing their true personalities.

While these challenges may arise, it's important to remember that overcoming them is part of the process. A skilled family photographer knows how to navigate these hurdles, creating an enjoyable and memorable experience for the entire family. The result is a collection of photographs that reflect the love, joy and unique dynamics of your family, treasured for years to come.
