ICA's Passport/ IC Photo Requirements

Singapore ICA's passport photo requirements are based on specifications by the International Standards Organisation (ISO) and the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).

It's rather "troublesome" with so many rules but we have to be realistic that our IC/ passport photographs are for identification purposes. Imagine that you need to check someone who's entering your premises, you probably want him or her to look like the photograph, which must be clear enough to compare.

  1. 400 x 514 pixels dimension
  2. JPG, JPEG or PNG file extension
  3. Maximum of 2 MB in file size
  4. Coloured photo - no black and white photo
  5. Even lighting / no shadow
  6. Within the last 3 months
  7. Neutral face, mouth closed
  8. Clear, sharp
  9. No cropping of hair and shoulder
  10. White background
  11. Dark colour clothes
  12. No reflection or tinted spectacle
  13. No coloured contact lens
  14. No red eye
  15. No blocking of eyes
  16. Front view
  17. Cannot be distorted/ flipped
  18. No editing/ enhancement

FAQ

  1. Why is doing a passport/ IC photoshoot so costly? Although the set-up is minimum, a substantial amount of time and effort is still required to prepare and set up the photography studio, while the timeslot has to be blocked off for your photoshoot.

I would suggest you take up a normal studio photoshoot as well and let the passport photoshoot occupy part of it. For example, you can do a professional corporate photoshoot for your LinkedIn and other professional profiles.
  2. What should I wear for the passport/ IC photoshoot? A darker-coloured top will be good - definitely not a white top.
