Reading Photoshoot with Michael Tan
Listed in portrait category: Hobby

After wrapping the opening session, we moved on to the Forest Discovery Centre. This was where the shoot took a more personal turn, centred around Michael's connection to reading. The change in atmosphere was subtle but grounding, like easing into a softer chapter.
This set was meant to capture more than a pastime. For Michael, reading is about growth, curiosity, and the quiet joy of slowing down. I wanted the images to reflect that depth, along with his warm and approachable presence. There was no elaborate staging—just Michael, a book and a leafy, tranquil space. Sometimes, that kind of simplicity allows expression to rise above everything else.
The weather that day wasn't exactly ideal. The sky was completely clear, and with no clouds to filter the sun, it could have easily become uncomfortably hot. Thankfully, we'd timed the shoot just right—it was still bearable, and the sunlight added a natural glow that worked well in the green area.
What truly brought this shoot to life was Michael's expression. Even in the simplicity of the setting, he offered something authentic, whether it was a quiet, focused gaze or a spontaneous laugh between pages. Those in-between moments added a spark that no setup could replicate.
This was one of those sets that reminded me how sometimes the most understated concepts can deliver some of the most heartfelt results.
