Night Couple Photoshoot with Troy & Felicia

Troy got in touch from the US with a mission: to fly halfway across the world and propose to Felicia in Singapore. It was no small feat—they talked daily, and she could track his every move. But that didn't stop him. He was focused, excited, and completely sure of what he wanted to do.
With help from Felicia's friends, Troy built the perfect cover: a girls' staycation at the Fullerton Hotel. Convincing her wasn't easy—she hesitated and arrived later than planned, which delayed the shoot. Still, the moment that followed made all the waiting more than worthwhile.
I arrived at the Fullerton Hotel early to walk through the setup with Troy and fine-tune the details. His original plan was to propose on the small balcony, with Marina Bay Sands in the backdrop—romantic in theory, but when I assessed the spot, the balcony wall was just too high. It blocked the view and made it impossible to frame the moment cleanly.
So, we adjusted. I suggested shifting the proposal indoors instead. It was simpler, but cleaner, and far more effective visually. I helped tidy up the space, cleared a corner, and made it as neat and photo-ready as possible—sometimes, small changes make the biggest difference.
When Felicia finally arrived, Troy brought her into the room and led her to the prepared spot. Then, right there, he dropped to one knee. The effort he had put into this surprise—across continents, through jet lag and careful planning—was already moving. He didn't need a grand setup. The love and sincerity in that moment said it all.
After she said yes, we carried on with a couple shoot around the hotel. We made sure to take some shots on the balcony Troy had originally envisioned—it meant something to him, so I wanted to honour that. Earlier on, I'd done a little location recce, so we had a good idea of where else we could shoot within the hotel without wasting time. We even went outside the hotel for a few casual night portraits.
With no off-camera lighting setup, I had to rely on available light and some handheld tricks using my speedlite—but we still managed to get flattering, meaningful photos.
It was one of those nights I'll remember—not because it was elaborate, but because it was genuine. I'm really thankful to have played a small part in such a big milestone.
