Commercial Fitness Gym Photoshoot with Platinum Fitness
When Marc first approached me for this fitness photoshoot, I was able to figure out his requirements easily since I already had multiple experiences in helping gym owners and personal trainers with their marketing.
From the point of a businessman, I quoted him for the type of photography that he would require without incurring huge damages. He was quick to compliment me although he wanted to get a few quotations first. I initially thought I had yet again over-spent my time crafting my long replies for a new enquiry, but Marc brought me good news soon.
I was delighted not only because of the chance to get to shoot in a gym again but also because businesses in Singapore were picking up since the pandemic started. It was good news for everyone.
There were two types of photoshoots that I had to do at his new Tanglin Mall outlet - portrait and interior.
I arrived early as usual and I was surprised to be received by a young chap. Marc was a great host and he assured me that he would do his best to assist me with the photography. My respect for him grew as I witnessed him doing the groundwork, including wiping the big glass door. He's a down-to-earth and friendly entrepreneur whom I foresee would do very well because of his popularity.
Since his models hadn't arrived, I began with interior photography but faced great challenges as his new gym had existing customers and new walk-ins - it wasn't empty.
The gym was big and had lots of high-end fitness equipment. I loved the clean and modern design. It also had a big stretch of windows at one side to allow beautiful natural light to enter, which kept the gym bright and it gave a very good vibe to the gym users.
Unfortunately, the big stretch of windows was something that I had underestimated and it posed the greatest challenge throughout the photoshoot (both portrait and interior). The colours of the natural light and the ceiling light crashed while the strong sunlight limited the angle of the entire photoshoot.
Perhaps, I foresee that the photographs would turn out much more beautiful if the photoshoot was done in the evening. It was quite impossible since it would be much more packed at that time.
The second challenge I faced was that the gym, although spacious, had too much equipment for good functionality so I wasn't able to find clean backgrounds to my satisfaction. To put it simply, the gym was great for gym users with a huge variety of machines but probably not the best gym for my kind of portrait photoshoot.
When Marc's wife and the other two models arrived, the pace of the photoshoot increased. Marc's wife acted as the creative art director and thus I could focus on the photography. I was glad that they listened to my explanation and thus we could work with the best angle of light possible to get better-quality photographs.
The biggest pressure I felt during the fitness photoshoot was having to figure out their ideas while trying to get the best composition and lighting possible. Fortunately, the models were natural in front of the camera and thus we could cover a variety of shots within a short time.
